Then Kayla made a decision: if she wanted to help those poor bunnies, she would have to do it in secret. She looked back at her house through the bushes. She knew that her father, Sebastian, wouldn’t be home from work for another two hours, and her mother, Erica, was busy in the kitchen preparing dinner. This was her best chance to act without being discovered, and Kayla knew she couldn’t miss it.

Kayla couldn’t wait to get those animals into her warm bed, where she could plan what to do next. In a hurry, she grabbed her coat and began carefully stowing the six bunnies in her pockets. They were heavier than she had imagined and, to her surprise, they didn’t hop around as rabbits usually do. They became quieter, as if they knew they needed help, which made Kayla even more determined to keep them safe.
