The Yankees Are SNL’s Mascot
You can never have too much superstition in the entertainment industry. SNL has had the same seats in Yankee Stadium since 1975, when the show first debuted there. Lorne Michaels, the SNL showrunner at the time, was offered the four seats behind home plate by the Yankees owner.
That’s why they’ve been paying to keep them since then. On a regular basis, Yankees fans can catch Michaels, as well as other A-listers and cast members, in this coveted seat.
Phil Hartman was Murdered
We’ve already talked about some of the tragic losses that SNL has had to deal with. In any case, the passing of Phil Hartman merits a separate section. Joining the cast in 1986, the Canadian-American actor, comedian, and screenwriter earned the nickname “Glue” for his ability to keep the group cohesive.
On The Simpsons, Hartman voiced Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure Brynn Omdahl, the star’s wife and a former model, killed him while he was in bed. He had just turned 49 years old.
