Elizabeth I was the queen of England and Ireland from 1558 to 1603. Born to King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, she was illegitimized after their annulment. A few years later, she ascended the throne. There are many paintings of her out there. In 2018, Mat Collishaw decided to conduct his own research.

What Queen Elizabeth I Really Looked Like

His project produced a hyper-realistic animatronic mask with a mouth and a pair of eyes that moved. The mask is connected to a mirror and can be seen at the Queen’s House across the Armada portrait. The artwork showed her younger than her 55 years at the time. The mask looks like other depictions of her!
